Barnsley retain belief that they can pull off a remarkable comeback when they visit Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday from 8pm in the second leg of their play-off semi-final.
The Reds lost the first leg 3-1 at home on Friday night.
They set a club record for away points in a season but lost their last four league games on the road.
They were the top away scorers in League One this season.
The Reds have not won in their last seven games, losing five, and have only won twice in 13 across two months.
Caretaker boss Devaney said: “We have to believe in ourselves.
“Our away form has been fantastic this year and that can lead into Tuesday nicely.
“Bolton are a good side. They just finished outside the top two and they have really good individuals who can hurt you.
“It will be a similar gameplan but we have to get that early goal and put them on the back foot.
“We have to cut out the mistakes and try to attack them as best we can.
“I just have to be really positive with the guys and get them believing we can go there and win. We’re the underdog, it’s 3-1 but stranger things have happened.”
Sam Cosgrove came off the bench and scored in the first leg. Devaney said: “He can change the dynamics of the team. He showed what he can do. We can look at it and see if he can be a bigger help come Tuesday. He’s certainly someone who will be in my mind.”
Barnsley are unbeaten in their last four trips to Bolton, drawing twice in the league and once in last season’s play-offs as well as an FA Cup win last season.
That cup win – thanks to an Adam Phillips screamer and a Ricardo Santos own goal – is their only victory at Bolton since 1994 while they have only won four games there in 26 visitors.
